The 147th Annual Yale-Harvard Regatta

With its panoramic views of the Thames River, Riverside Park has long been a favorite spot for viewing the traditional Yale-Harvard Regatta.

First contested in 1852, the Regatta is America's oldest collegiate athletic competition. The race has been rowed on the Thames River in New London, Connecticut, on all but 5 occasions since 1878.

Originally the race was just between the varsity crews, but there are now 3 events on the day: the 2 mile freshman race, the 3 mile junior varsity and the 4 mile varsity race.

The 2012 Regatta will be held on Saturday, May 26. The Friends of Riverside Park Conservancy's Celebration in the Park will take place from 12noon-4pm, with food, fun and games for all ages. The Silver Hammer Band will be returning to this year's celebration and will perform from 1-3pm..

The boats will race downriver: 3:00 freshmen, 3:45 junior varsity, 4:45 varsity.
